We Observe Shabbat (Sabbath) and the 7 Feasts and Festivals of God
7 feasts of Yah, as outlined in Leviticus 23, are annual festivals that Yah gave to His people as moedim (meeting times or appointments with Him) to keep. Yeshua observed them all, so should we, yet not legalistically or merely ritualistically, but with understanding and rejoicing because in them we see Yeshua and His redemptive work! As a ministry we pause to observe each of these. Our desire is to learn of them and make them special, elevating them above pagan holidays, man-made holidays, traditions and other celebrations that we look forward to and have learned to love.
These feasts are: *Passover (Pesach), Unleavened Bread (Chag HaMatzah), First Fruits (Yom HaBikkurim), *Pentecost (Shavuot), *Trumpets (Yom Teruah), *Atonement (Yom Kippur), and *Tabernacles (Sukkot). The weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) is also a significant feast, observed every seventh day.
1. Shabbat (Weekly Sabbath): Exodus 20:8. A day of rest, family, fellowship and worship, observed every seventh day. We are commanded to remember it to keep it holy (set apart, distinct, special). The Sabbath (Shabbat), according to the book of Genesis' accounting of one day, is from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. It is not the same as Sunday worship. Sunday worship recognizes the resurrection of Yeshua on the first day of the week (Sunday). We celebrate both Saturday Sabbath and Sunday worship as well as mid-week services.
2. Passover (Pesach): Leviticus 23:4-8. Exodus 12. John 1:29. Commemorates the Israelites' liberation from slavery in Egypt. We see in this Yeshua as our Passover lamb, the lamb of Yah who takes away the sin of the world; our deliverance.
3. Unleavened Bread (Chag HaMatzah): Leviticus 23:6. John 6:35. A seven-day festival immediately following Passover, where no leavened bread is eaten.
4. First Fruits (Yom HaBikkurim): Leviticus 23:10, 1 Cor. 15:20. Celebrates the first harvest of barley and foreshadows the resurrection of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ0.
5. Pentecost/Feast of Weeks (Shavuot): Leviticus 23:16, Acts 1:4
celebrated in the 6th of Sivan. Celebrates the giving of the law to Moses and also foreshadows the giving of Holy Spirit with fire to Believers.
6. Trumpets (Yom Teruah/Rosh Hashanah): Leviticus 23:24, Revelation 19:9. Also known as Rosh Hashanah, it marks the beginning of the civil / calendar year and the start of the High Holy Days. Yeshua’s birth is thought to be at this time. It is also the creation of Adam.
7. Atonement (Yom Kippur): Leviticus 16, 23. 1John 2:2. The Day of Atonement, a day of fasting and repentance, seeking forgiveness for sins. Thought to be the holiest of days. A high holy day.
8. Tabernacles (Sukkot): Leviticus 22:24, Matthew 1:23. A seven-day festival commemorating the Israelites' journey through the wilderness. Foreshadows the time when Yeshua will tabernacle with his people during the millennial reign.
We also recognize * Purim (time of queen Esther) when Yah’s people are delivered from the plots of evil Haman who desired to destroy the people of Yah.
and *Hanukkah (when Judah Maccabee—and his family—rose up as a leader to lead the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire and cleanse the temple. A postponed Sukkot.
